I initially wrote, directed and edited this little jam during a period of lockdown in 2020. The idea stemmed from a concept for a 2 shot GIF/Meme which I had in mind - Guy stares at housemate - guy stabs housemate. When the iconic Roger Corman announced his ‘Quarantine Film Festival’, I further expanded the idea to include a bigger storyline and some more iconic and detailed production design and dialogue. In 2022 I shot additional scenes and re-edited the film adding in 3 ‘fake trailers’ to create a classic cinema experience for the short film festival circuit.

Initially I gave myself several restrictions - 1) Shoot on a mobile phone. 2) Light with only what I had laying around 3) Strict timeline - 3 day scripting, 3 day shoot, 3 day edit.

Added to this; for the character of ‘Adam’ I was to use my un-trained-actor house-guest Adam Connell and the actress Megan Hind who was 700kms away in another city. Both of these aspects created great creative restrictions - how to build the narrative and drama in a way that was consistently building and dynamic while utilising the limitations in place.

As I was nearing the final edit of the film and the deadline for Roger Corman’s Quarantine Film Festival, I faced another restriction - his entries had to be no more than 90 seconds long. I decided to make a trailer of the film and used that as the entry for the festival.

I think both pieces turned out wonderfully and there are more film festivals adding ‘Adam & The Man Who Gave Too Many F**ks’ to their lineup. Enjoy!
